NEW ORLEANS – The USTFCCA announced its annual academic awards on Thursday with the Sam Houston State Bearkats earning multiple honors.
The Bearkat women’s track and field team were one of 220 women’s programs across the country to earn recognition as an all-academic team. To earn the honor a team has to put forth a team cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better with the Bearkat women meeting that mark with a 3.05 GPA.
They were one of four Southland Conference team to earn the recognition, joined by McNeese, Central Arkansas and Incarnate Word.
Additionally, six Bearkats earned received individual all-academic recognition, including three each on both the men’s and women’s side. Earning those honors on the women’s side were Tristyn Allen, Kristine Hanks and Margaret Lasalle while Tyler Adams, Joshua Hernandez and Garrett Larson were named to the men’s side.
To qualify for USTFCCA all-academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met one of the following athletic standards:
- For the indoor season, must have finished the regular season ranked in the top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org
- For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds
