FRISCO – Sam Houston State senior Hunter Hearn was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week for the second consecutive on Sunday, per a release from league officials.

Hearn followed up his huge weekend at SLU with another big week, helping Sam Houston State clinch the outright Southland Conference championship. He had a hit in four of five games played, including hitting for the second Bearkat cycle in the last two weeks in the series opener vs the Demons.

Hearn delivered a two-run triple in the opening inning of the Kats’ doubleheader at Arizona and two games later put together his cycle, doing it in his first four at-bats and finishing it off with an RBI double. He finished with three RBI in that game and picked up another RBI single in Friday’s doubleheader opener.

He then went 2-for-3 with a double and two more RBI in the series finale, reaching base four times in what would be a walk-off win for the Kats to clinch the league crown. For the week he hit at a .471 clip with five of his eight hits going for extra bases.

The Bearkats will enter this week’s Southland Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed and begin play on Wednesday against No. 8 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Kats’ first-round game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start at Constellation Field in Sugar Land with all games for the tournament to be aired on ESPN+.
