Sam Houston head softball coach Bob Brock was honored in a special pregame ceremony at Friday's Bearkat game against Texas State.
On April 18, in a road doubleheader victory, Brock reached a career milestone as he became the 15th head coach in NCAA Division I softball history to amass 1,000 victories.
Sam Houston State University president Dr. Dana Gibson, director of athletics Bobby Williams and associate athletic director Chris Thompson made the presentation to coach Brock and his wife Mary in front of more than 462 fans at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
Brock now ranks 10th among NCAA Division I active softball head coaches with a record of 1,007-605-1 in his 27 seasons at Sam Houston, Texas A&M, and Baylor.
He has won three national championships and is a former Women's Professional Fastpitch League head coach.
Now in his 10th season at his alma mater, Brock was voted 2005 Southland Conference "Coach of the Year." He director the team to the 2007 Southland Conference tournament championship and an NCAA Regional appearance.
Brock served as head coach at Baylor from 1980 to 1981 and at Texas A&M from 1982 to 1996. Six times he directed teams to the College World Series, winning national titles in 1982, 1983 and 1987 and finishing as runner-up in 1984 and 1986.
