Pair of Kats earn CUSA weekly soccer honors

DALLAS — Sam Houston is heating up at the right time, and the rest of Conference USA is taking notice.

After helping the Bearkats post back-to-back wins this past week to extend their winning streak to three matches, junior Gabrielle Gipson and senior Katie Bahn have been named the league's Defender and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively. Sam Houston topped FIU 1-0 on Oct. 16 in Miami and used the same score to knock off Missouri State in Springfield on Oct. 19.

Gipson scored her second goal of the season, which just so happened to be another game winner against the Panthers. She also helped guide a defensive attack that allowed just two total shots on goal over the past two matches.

Bahn has continued to be a force in the net for the Kats. She saved both shots on goal this past week while posting her fifth and six shutouts of the season.

Sam Houston (8-4-2) is currently in third place at 5-1-1 in CUSA behind Liberty and WKU, which both sit at 5-0-2. The Kats close the regular season with the Flames in Lynchburg, Va., on Sunday at noon.
