HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston opened and closed the Bearkat Classic in dramatic fashion.
Brodie Quinlan blasted a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the seventh to delivery the Bearkats (2-3) a 2-1 victory over Northwestern State at the Bearkat Softball Complex on Sunday.
Kylie Hobbs hit a three-run walk-off home run in the opener on Thursday as Sam Houston rallied from six down to beat UTSA 11-10 in the seventh.
Emma Guidon tossed a gem for the Bearkats in the circle. She picked up the win Thursday in relief, but this time she got the start and allowed just three hits in seven innings to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Bearkats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Ellie Grill singled to right center field to begin the frame. With one out, she stole second and came around to score on a double to center by Hobbs.
Guindon kept the Demons off the board for first two innings, but Northwestern State tied it in the third with a home run to left field.
Sam Houston had a great opportunity to get on the board again in the fourth inning. Hobbs laced a lead-off double off the wall in right center field. The Demons were able to get out of the jam with three straight outs to end the inning.
The Kats hit the road to play in the North Texas Tournament Feb. 17-19.
