HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston picked up where it left off in its last outing to run-rule Prairie View A&M 9-1 in five innings on Wednesday at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Bearkats (7-10) overall entered the contest fresh off a 9-4 victory over Houston Baptist to close the Houston Tournament on Saturday.
Sam Houston jumped out to big lead beginning in the first inning. Reagan Dunn and
Brodie Quinlan drew back-to-back walks with one-out, and
Elia Hebel singled to left field to load the bases.
All three runners advanced on a wild pitch which brought Dunn home for the first run.
Brailey Wasik laced a two-run double into right to make it 3-0.
Quinlan got a four-run third inning started with a double to center and scored on a double by
Tricia Yarotsky. Wasik reached on a fielding error by the right fielder on a dropped fly ball which brought in a run, and
Kylie Hobbs launched a two-run home run for a 7-0 lead.
Meanwhile, starting pitcher
Daryn Grams was cruising in the circle. She struck out six in five innings and only gave up one run in the top of the fifth to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Sam Houston scored a run in the bottom of the fourth on a fielder's choice and walked it off in the bottom of the fifth when pinch runner
Chandler Talbot beat the throw home on another fielder's choice.
The Bearkats will open the Baylor Tournament on Saturday with a noon contest against Texas A&M.
