Kats knock off No. 25 Aggies

WACO — Sam Houston picked up a top-25 win and came close to another at the Baylor Tournament on Saturday.

The Bearkats (8-11) upset No. 25 Texas A&M in the opener, then had No. 21 Baylor on the ropes until the Bears were able to rally in the bottom of the seventh.
Â
Sam Houston will face the Aggies Sunday at 10 a.m. and wrap up the tournament against Baylor at 12:30 p.m.

Sam Houston 4, No. 25 Texas A&M 0
Emma Guindon pitched seven scoreless innings to lead Sam Houston to a 4-0 upset over No. 25 Texas A&M on Saturday at the Baylor Tournament.
Â
Guindon allowed only five hits and one walk to go along with two strikeouts to improve to 2-2 on the season.

Tricia Yarotsky got the Kats on the board in the bottom of the first inning when she tripled to right center field and scored on a passed ball. That would prove to be enough for Sam Houston, but the Bearkats added three insurance runs in the fifth.

Kylie Hobbs drew a walk to begin the fifth and pinch runner Chandler Talbot beat out a throw to second to allow Hannah Scheaffer to reach on a fielder's choice. Haleigh Carter reached on a similar play and all the runners advanced on a error.

Emily Telg then ripped a two-run double to right center to make it 4-0.

No. 21 Baylor rallied for six runs in the seventh inning steal a 9-8 victory over Sam Houston on Saturday.

The Bearkats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first when Tricia Yarotsky hit a one-out double and scored on a double down the left field line to make it 1-0. Brodie Quinlan singled and Kylie Hobbs walked to load the bases for Hannah Scheaffer who drew a free pass to bring in another run.

Haleigh Carter and Emily Telg followed with back-to-back RBI singles.

Sam Houston added two more runs in the second on an RBI double by Hebel and another on an error to make it 6-0 before the Bears got on the board with a run in the bottom of the frame and two more in the fourth.

The Bearkats appeared headed for victory when Julia Herzinger brought home a run on a double, and Carter tacked on an RBI single in the sevneth. But Baylor used five hits and a pair of walks to walk it off in the bottom of the frame.
