HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston took batting practice in the second inning to roll past ULM 9-2 at Bearkat Softball Complex on Wednesday.
The Bearkats (17-29) sent 14 batters to the plate in the second frame and scored all nine runs on seven hits, an error, a walk and two hit by pitches to seize control of their final home midweek game of the season.
Jordan Peno and
Julia Herzinger got the rally going with singles as Herzinger stole second to put both runners in scoring position.
Haleigh Carter drove in a run with a single, and Herzinger was also able to score on the play thanks to an error by the centerfielder.
Hannah Scheaffer laced an RBI single through the right side, and
Brodie Quinlan ripped an RBI double to left center to make it 4-0.
Ellie Grill and
Tricia Yarotsky were both hit by a pitch to load the bases and a pair of wild pitches made it 6-0.
Pinch runner
Chandler Talbot stole second base and the throw down allowed Yarotsky to score. Herzinger added an RBI double, and Carter drove in the final run on an infield single.
Mika Vento was solid in the circle for the Bearkats to earn her third win of the season. She tossed four scoreless innings before running into some control issues in the fifth that allowed a couple of runs to score.
Emma Guindon closed the game with 2 1/3 shutout innings in relief.
Sam Houston will return to WAC play with a three-game series at Tarleton beginning with a doubleheader Friday at 4 p.m.
