HOUSTON — Pitt exploded for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to hand Sam Houston a 5-1 setback at the Houston Tournament on Saturday.
The game was a pitchers' duel the first four innings as Bearkat starter
Mika Vento kept the Panthers off the board.
Sam Houston (5-9) finally broke the scoreless tie in the fifth.
Kylie Hobbs drew a lead-off walk and
Hannah Scheaffer followed with a single to setup an RBI single by
Ellie Grill.
Pitt tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run. The Panthers got two more solo home runs in the sixth and a two-run single to pull in front.
Grill and Scheaffer led Sam Houston at the plate with a pair of hits each.
Elia Hebel and
Regan Dunn also hit safely in the contest.
The Bearkats close out the tournament with a game against Houston on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and Houston Christian at 3 p.m.
